Independence Day is one of the most important days for American families. However, as data from The National Safety Council (NSC) shows, it can also be one of the deadliest.
Over 300 people are expected to die during this year’s Independence Day due to traffic accidents. As depressing as this may seem, we can prevent that by sticking to the simple rules of safe driving.
The basics:
Wear a seatbelt.
Wearing a seatbelt prevents over 45% of the potential fatalities in car crashes. This “Lives Saved” statistic shows that over 100 people can be saved just this Independence Day if people just wore their seat belts.
Don’t drink and drive.
Over 40% of fatal incidents on Independence Day occur because of alcohol usage. It’s the deadliest holiday because of impaired driving.
The road doesn’t have to be dangerous. You have the power to save lives by following these two simple rules literally. Stick to the basics, don’t drink and drive, wear your seatbelts and enjoy the holiday!
