Happy New Year, Monterey! The weather may be cloudy and the days cold, but that doesn't mean we can't get together and have some fun. Monterey County is full of amazing natural wonders and fun cultural spots right in our backyard. So, where would you like to visit as you prepare for the new year?
Agriculture might not be the first thing on your mind when you visit Monterey County, but this area of California is world-renowned for the quality of our produce. Including world-class berries, lettuces, herbs, mushrooms, garlic, artichokes, asparagus, and so much more! Beyond that, we have one-of-a-kind natural beauty. I think it's time to strap on our jackets and go explore; here are a couple of ideas to get you started!
Try Gilroy Garlic Ice Cream - You heard that right…..Garlic….Ice Cream. Yea, we get pretty strange around these parts; from time to time, haha! Gilroy is just a short drive from Monterey, and it is world-famous for producing some of the greatest garlic on the planet. You'll find it laced into everything you eat around here, including dessert. Gilroy garlic ice cream is a beloved treat for some and a fun novelty for others. Either way, we guarantee you'll leave with a story to tell. Just don't forget the breath mints, haha!
Visit The Artichoke Farms - We are a little bit early on this one, but now is the perfect time to start looking into everything! Monterey is famous for its incredibly high-quality artichokes and the awesome artichoke products we produce. Peak season starts around March and ends in May (depending on weather and local conditions). Keep your eyes peeled for food trucks offering yummy artichoke dishes as well; there are some great ones around.
See "Julia Pfeiffer Burns" State Park - This is really a must-do if you are in the Monterey area. The natural beauty of "Julia Pfeiffer Burns" State Park is unique to this region, and it is only an hour away. You'll see where the forest meets the sea and the cascading cliffs below. You'll see wildflowers, meadows, and rivers meandering peacefully through the hillsides. It is truly a magical place, and we highly recommend you make a stop.
Monterey County is absolutely stuffed with incredible beauty and wonderful things for the family to do. Choose what type of day trip suits you and hit the road. Remember, this is January, so stay safe on the road and watch out for dangerous driving conditions. If you ever need quality collision and detailing service, our shop is here to help.
