Here are some helpful tips to keep your vehicle safe while driving in wet weather.
Posted speed limits are designed for good weather. When conditions aren’t great, slow down and give yourself extra room around you.
Don’t use your cruise control since it can increase the danger when hydroplaning.
Keep your headlights on for better visibility.
Minimize the likelihood of hydroplaning by slowing down.
If you do start to hydroplane, take your foot off the gas pedal and allow the tires to grab ahold of the road again before applying the brakes.
To reduce the chances of an accident, leave plenty of room between around you and avoid hard braking.
Do not make sharp turns.
Try to drive in the tracks of the vehicles traveling ahead of you.
If your vehicle begins to skid, stay calm and look and steer the car in the direction you intend to go.
When skidding, don’t panic and don’t slam on the brakes, since that has the potential to create a complete loss of control.
Make sure your tires are in good condition, properly inflated, with solid tread depth for the best traction in rainy weather.
