Here on the Monterey Peninsula, we have a few windy roads that go through the hills and peaks. Not everyone is familiar or comfortable driving on mountain roads, so here are a few safety tips from Roadtrip America that can help prevent accidents: Make sure that your brakes, windshield wipers, defroster, heater, and exhaust systems are in good condition. Don't go down a mountain road any faster than you can go up it. On steep upgrades, downshift to a lower gear, watch the temperature gauge in your vehicle, and turn off the air-conditioning if it starts to overheat. Don't "hug" the center line. DON’T EVER CROSS THE CENTER LINE or you could find yourself in a head-on collision!!! Always remember that the car going UPHILL should be given the right of way.
