Mazda Repair | Mazda Service at Robert’s Auto Repair

Mazda began as the Toyo Cork Kogyo Co., Ltd, founded in Japan in 1920. Toyo Cork Kogyo renamed itself to Toyo Kogyo Co., Ltd. in 1927. Toyo Kogyo moved from manufacturing machine tools to vehicles, with the introduction of the Mazda-Go in 1931. Toyo Kogyo produced weapons for the Japanese military throughout the Second World War, most notably the series 30 through 35 Type 99 rifle. The company formally adopted the Mazda name in 1984, though every automobile sold from the beginning bore that name. The Mazda R360 was introduced in 1960, followed by the Mazda Carol in 1962. Beginning in the 1960s, Mazda put a major engineering effort into development of the Wankel rotary engine as a way of differentiating themselves from other American auto companies. This effort to bring attention to themselves apparently helped, as Mazda rapidly began to export its vehicles. Both piston-powered and rotary-powered models made their way around the world. The rotary models quickly became popular fo ... read more

KIA Repair | KIA Service at Robert’s Auto Repair

According to Kia Motors, the name "Kia" derives from the Sino-Korean words ki ("to come out") and a (which stands for Asia), it is roughly translated as "arise or come up out of Asia" or "rising out of Asia". South Korea's oldest car company, Kia was founded on June 9, 1944 as a manufacturer of steel tubing and bicycle parts by hand — and has operated as one of the country's conglomerates since. In 1952, Kia changed its name from Kyungsung Precision Industry, and later built motorcycles (starting in 1957), trucks (1962) and cars (1974). The company opened its first integrated automotive assembly plant in 1973, the Sohari Plant. Starting in 1986, in partnership with Ford, Kia produced several Mazda derived vehicles for both domestic sales in South Korea into other countries. These models include the Pride (based on the Mazda 121) and Avella, which were sold in North America and Australasia as the Ford Festiva and For ... read more

The name was changed to Jaguar after World War II due to the unfavourable connotations of the SS initials. Following a merger with the British Motor Corporation in 1968, subsequently subsumed by Leyland, which itself was later nationalised as British Leyland, Jaguar was listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1984, and became a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index until it was acquired by Ford in 1989. Saturn Corporation was an automobile manufacturer and marque, established on January 7, 1985 as a subsidiary of General Motors in response to the success of Japanese automobile imports in the United States. The company marketed itself as a "different kind of car company," and operated somewhat independently from its parent company for a time, with its own assembly plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee, unique models, and a separate retailer network. Following the withdrawal of a bid by Penske Automotive to acquire Saturn in September 2009, General Motors discontinued the Saturn brand and ended its outstanding franchises on October 31, 2010. Customer Testimonial for Body Work and Customer Rewards Card

The other week, I did something dumb. I backed up into a pole without realizing it was there. My brand new 2011 Mini Cooper Countryman (aptly named Pepe Le Bleu since he’s peppy, he’s true blue, and has white bonnet stripes) not only had its first scratch, but I completely broke the rear passenger tail light. Major bummer! My poor car! Being the gal who does marketing projects for Robert’s Auto Repair, I knew exactly where to take my Mini for auto body repair....Robert’s Auto Repair, of course. Even though I knew this was going to cost me plenty (since Mini is made by BMW, and BMW parts aren’t cheap), I decided to look at the bright side of it all. Finally, here was a great opportunity to experience the full service that Robert’s Auto Repair provides its customers. Now, when people ask me how is the customer service and quality of work at Robert’s Auto Repair, I can happily report that yes, I’ve pleasantly experienced oil changes, new tires and alignment, detailing the t ... read more

Fluids and Staying Hydrated with a Coolant Service

All the health experts agree...make sure you drink 8 glasses of water each day to stay healthy. When you have enough fluids in your body, toxins get flushed out, your wrinkles diminish, and you feel better. Well, the same can be said about your car. Obviously, your vehicle doesn't drink 8 glasses of water each day, but think about all the fluids your car requires to run "healthy". There's gasoline to make it go, there's water to cool it down, there's oil to keep it lubricated, and so on. Periodically, these fluids need to be flushed and replaced in order to get rid of the "gunk". Changing the fluids in your radiator is especially important. Most of us are aware that radiator coolant keeps your engine from overheating and corroding, but did you know that the same fluid can corrode your engine if you leave it in too long? Over a significant period of time, the static charge of the engine makes the fluid acidic and it eats up the aluminum pipes, making your engine vulnerable to maj ... read more

Pontiac was an automobile brand that was established in 1926 as a companion make for General Motors' Oakland. Quickly overtaking its parent in popularity, it supplanted the Oakland brand entirely by 1933. Pontiac was sold in the United States, Canada, and Mexico by General Motors(GM). Pontiac was marketed as the performance division of General Motors for many years, specializing in mainstream performance vehicles. Pontiac was relatively more popular in Canada, where for much of its history it was marketed as a low-priced vehicle. On April 27, 2009, amid ongoing financial problems and restructuring efforts, GM announced it would discontinue the Pontiac brand by the end of 2010 and focus on four core brands in North America: Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick, and GMC. Among the innovations in its early years would be the first practical mass-produced four-wheel hydraulic brakes, a system nearly completely engineered by Chrysler with patents assigned to Lockheed, and rubber engine mounts to reduce vibration. Chrysler also developed a road wheel with a ridged rim, designed to keep a deflated tire from flying off the wheel. This safety wheel was eventually adopted by the auto industry worldwide. Brakes and Rotor Service

Your car's brake system is a complex grouping of parts which serve a critical role in keeping you safe. No other system in the car is as important for your safety. Keeping your brake system in tip-top shape should be your top priority. These are some common problems that we see at Robert's Auto Repair that require brake repair and service: Wear--The braking system does a lot of work and the brake pads take the brunt of the punishment. It is a good idea to have you brake pads checked every 6 months or when you suspect a problem. Symptoms include squeaking, grinding, or increased stopping distance. Most pads have a thin metal tab which vibrates against the rotor when the pads wears down to a dangerous level. Some pads do not have this and if not checked periodically can wear down far enough to ruin the rotors. Warped Rotors--More common in newer cars, but possible on all disc brake systems. Rotors warp due to being overheated or incorrect tightening of the wheel. A warped rotor ... read more

Lighting Systems and Safety

During the holiday season, it's all about the lights! Christmas lights. Lighting the menorah. Luminaries along the sidewalk. Candy Cane Lane and Christmas In The Adobes. The Holiday Boat Parade. But for now, let's talk about the lights on your car, truck, van, or motorcycle. Headlights, tail lights, blinker and hazard lights, parking lights, dome lights and dashboard lights all have very important roles in your vehicle's lighting and safety system. Particularly during twilight conditions, at night and in poor weather conditions, lighting is a critical safety factor. For this reason, drivers should always make sure that their vehicle's lighting system is working properly. The lighting system of a motor vehicle consists of lighting and signalling devices mounted or integrated to the front, sides, rear, and in some cases the top of the vehicle. The purpose of this system is to provide illumination for the driver to operate the vehicle safely after dark, to increase the con ... read more

Tire Balancing and Alignment

For those of you who think that tire balancing isn't that important, consider some industry trends that may help you rethink the issue. Perhaps the most compelling argument for precision balancing comes from an obvious fact: vehicles are being made lighter and lighter. The heavier cars of yesterday actually helped smooth out the ride by dampening many vibrations before the driver could feel them. The softer suspensions also had the same effect. Another factor is tire technology. Generally, more responsive tires with lower profiles (which send more road feedback to the driver) are being used in today's style- and performance-oriented market. As a result, the slightest imbalance (as little as half an ounce) can be felt in most modern vehicles. This is significantly less than the average of ten years ago. For those of you who have plus-sized your tires and wheels, balancing is even more critical. Perhaps the best way to begin is to discuss the lack of balance. When a tire ... read more

Things You Should Know About Antifreeze

Do you remember that fairy tale where a lion insults a mouse only to get caught in a trap? The mouse returns to chew the ropes and help the lion become free again? That story taught us the important lesson that even small things can be very useful in the long run. The same is the case with maintenance of the family vehicle as well. We spend so much time focusing on the engine, transmission and other important and expensive components in the truck that we forget the role of antifreeze in the maintenance of your cars, trucks, motorcycles and vans as well. To prepare your vehicle for the winter season, make sure your antifreeze is mixed properly, or you could see serious damage to your vehicle’s radiator. Often in Summer, water is the only component used in radiators to ensure the engine remains cool. As Winter approaches, many forget to remove the water when the seasons change and add antifreeze. Temperatures reach thousands of degrees in automobiles and the proper mixture of a ... read more

Windshield Wiper Blades

When we see things clearly, it makes a world of difference. Sometimes we think we see things fine, but when we make the effort to clean our windshield, we go “Ahhhhh!” Are you as conscientious about your windshield wipers as you are about your car's engine? Car safety is a critical concern for everyone. Worn wiper blades are dangerous. Because 90% of your driving decisions are based on a clear, unobstructed view of the road, it's a critical safety concern that your car's wipers provide you with the cleanest windshield possible. Ozone, airborne contaminants, oil, sunlight and dirt all act to weaken and reduce your wiper blades' ability to keep your view unobstructed. Exposure to sunlight and ozone cause the wiper blades to age, even if they're not used much. Weather also plays a critical role in your windshield wiper blades' deterioration. Freezing temperatures make the rubber in your wiper blades hard and brittle, which increases their tendency to crack or tear. Hot weathe ... read more

Tire Safety

Tires are often the most taken-for-granted part of the car. They get kicked, worn, and they eventually go bald. However, tire safety is extremely important if you want to protect yourself from common road hazards. This month, we will start to experience the “First Flush” of rainstorms and slippery roads. “First Flush” conditions often cause vehicles to hydroplane more easily because the oil has not yet been fully washed off the roadway and the tires don’t grip as well they would in normal wet weather conditions. Don’t forget about your treks up into the mountains for skiing. You’ll not only come across possible rain, but also heavy or light snow, black ice, hail, and other winter weather. Are your tires in good enough shape to handle these weather conditions? It is dangerous and illegal to drive a vehicle with extremely worn or damaged tires. Tires must have at least 2/32 inches of tread depth in the proper grooves and no fabric breaks or exposed cords. The distance between the e ... read more

Nissans

When it was founded in 1914, Datsun was named after the surnames of its 3 founders--Den, Aoyoma, and Takeuchi. Over the years, the brand took several names and eventually became "Datsun" to phonetically sound like the "Son of DAT". The spelling of "Datson" was rejected in Japan because "son" means "loss" in Japanese, thus "Datsun" was born. The Nissan brand started being used in the 1930s, however, when the Nissan Motor Company was founded in 1934, it continued to market its vehicles under the Datsun brand name until 1999. The Nissan Maxima line is their best known automobile, but Nissan also has vehicles in the coupe, sports car, minivan, truck, crossover, SUV, and hybrid markets. Robert's Auto Repair is a Nissan maintenance and repair destination. Sometimes a vintage Datsun model will come in for service, but more frequently, our customers will bring us their Nissan Maximas, Nissan Sentras, Nissan Altimas, and Nissan Muranos, just to name a few ... read more
